Retire in Hugo
HUGO, COLORADO
Retirement
community and much more
If you are thinking about retiring
someday now might be the time to start looking. Many folks leave their beloved
state and go south to retire only to miss the wide open Colorado skies and friendly people.
Here in Hugo we have so much to
offer and you don’t have to leave Colorado. For instance we have a wonderful
hospital with an attached nursing home. The hospital offers Inpatient, Outpatient
& Emergency Services, Home Health, Hospice, Endoscopic exams, Echocardiology,
Obstetrical services, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Mammography, Ultrasound, Mobile MRI, CAT Scan
Exams, Anesthesia Services, Long Term Care, lab, X-ray, Cardiac Rehabilitation, DEXAscan, and Advanced nuclear Medicine. In addition they have Consulting Specialty Clinics for the following practices: Neurosurgery,
Anesthesia, Gastroenterology, Nuclear Medicine, Echo/Carotid Doppler, Ultrasound, MRI, Radiology, Cat Scan/Dexascan, Audiology,
Hematology/Oncology, Otolaryngology, Podiatry, Plastic Surgery, Pulmonary, and Urology.
We have an excellent Family Practice clinic on the ground floor of the
hospital making it easily assessable for handicapped.
All of this is only a two minute drive from anywhere in town. No traffic
jams and no stop lights.
We also have senior housing and
excellent assisted living. The Bee Hive Assisted Living facility provides a warm family environment and the residents receive
excellent care, home-cooked meals and have lots of activities. Residents love
it there.
The senior housing is called Smokey
Hill. It is located in a very pleasant part of town within easy walking distance
to the grocery store, post office, hospital and eating establishments. Smokey
Hill is for folks 62 and over. It is located at:
522 2nd Avenue, P.O. Box 305, Hugo. 743-2174
We have a variety of churches
for worship. We have a United Methodist church, Catholic church, Baptist church
and a Lutheran church. These all have weekly services and would love to have
you come and worship.
For entertainment we have a huge
bike race in May (450 riders), horse shows and Gymkhanas, high school sports, 4th of July fireworks, Melodramas
and a host of other activities throughout the year including a parade of lights in December.
We have a wonderful museum called the Hedlund House. If you want to belong
to a club there are many and if you wish to be part of community service projects there are many of those as well.
For shopping we have antiques,
uniques, and gifts. We have a hardware/lumber yard, car wash, hair care, restaurants,
and a super, well stocked, and ultra-friendly grocery store. If you need
to have your car fixed or maintained we have that too.
If you are from the city you will
love our court house. If you need to license your car, renew a drivers license
or conduct any business provided by the county government you will be pleasantly surprised.
WE HAVE NO WAITING LINES. We have friendly, professional people to serve
you and yes we repeat, NO WAITING LINES.
Perhaps what we have that is unparalleled
is that wonderful, friendly small town atmosphere and a climate that is unbeatable.
Oh we may have an occasional cold spell in the winter but they move on quickly.
We may have a brief hot spell in the summer but those too quickly pass.
Hugo is a place where in the summer
the laughter and shouts of children playing echoes through the streets until well after dark.
A place where people who grew up here come back to live. A place where
everyone waves or greets everyone. A place where a trip to the grocery store
for a quart of milk will take 30 minutes to an hour because everyone you see wants to visit.
Hugo is a place where it is common
to see deer ambling though town and even wild turkeys strutting their stuff. A
place where you really can make a difference by being involved in the many groups pulling together to improve our town. A place where our senior citizens are not shut-ins but rather are a vibrant and active
part of community life. A place where everyone watches out for everyone else. A place where the local grocery store delivers to the homes of those who can’t
get out. A place where the sound of the train rolling through town is nostalgic
and comforting.
Hugo is a place where golfers
play golf on one of only three prairie grass and sand greens in the state. A
place where antelope are always on the prairie, moving from place to place in the ancient ways they have always traveled.
Hugo is a patriotic community. We have sent our young men and women to war in every conflict undertaken by the U.S.
Government since our inception. In the middle of our city park is a memorial
to those who have lost their lives in WW I. Our VFW is named after a local boy,
Joe Will, who was killed in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. We still salute the flag, say grace at public gatherings and respect the
rights of everyone.
Hugo is a great place to live,
we have a great school, a super hospital, top-notch senior care facilities for those who cannot get out and around but most
of all we have a positive attitude.
Hugo is a place where a little
grassy park in the center of town welcomes all who need a shady rest or a spot to relax.
Rest assured that when you are in Hugo you are welcome and we are glad to have you here.
